Eight members of the boys' cross country team with Head Coach Chris Delucia and a trophy

The Hill Boys' Cross Country team claimed victory at the 52nd running of the Canterbury Invitational on September 20, 2025. The team scored 67 points to outpace second-place The Hotchkiss School (84 points) and third-place The Brunswick School (86 points). Leo Li ’28 placed fourth and Shane Duo ’26 placed fifth overall.

The team's depth and strong performances from all runners were key to their success. With this win, Hill Boys' Cross Country ended a 37-year drought at the Canterbury Invitational, with their previous victory dating back to 1987.

Head Coach Chris Delucia P’13 reflected on the team's dominant performance, saying, "I had no idea how long it had been since Hill won at Canterbury, but I knew that it predated my arrival at Hill in 1999.”

“We had no expectations of winning because Hotchkiss and Brunswick beat us by a large margin last year and only graduated one runner each,” he continued. “We had illness and injury, but we also have a very deep team, and some runners really stepped up on Saturday. Leo and Shane were far ahead of our opponents, and that was how we ended up with only 67 points - 17 ahead of Hotchkiss and 19 ahead of Brunswick. Just like the last Hill team that won in 1987, it was a team effort."
