The Hill School announces the appointment of Kurt Luitwieler as the School’s new head girls’ varsity soccer coach. Luitwieler comes from the Darlington School in Rome, Ga., most recently serving as the head girls’ soccer coach for their Soccer Academy. He will also join Hill’s Mathematics Department as an instructor of mathematics.
Luitwieler replaces Head Coach Elena Dauphinais, who has led the team since 2021 after serving as the assistant coach for four seasons.
“Coach Luitwieler distinguished himself as the best person to lead The Hill School’s Girls’ Soccer program forward,” notes Hill School Director of Athletics and Co-Curricular Activities Seth Eilberg P'22 '23 '25. “In talking with him, he is excited to return to coaching a prep team and girls who take pride in playing for their school.”
With a background that includes coaching various teams at the Darlington School’s nationally recognized Soccer Academy since 2016, Luitwieler’s experience is comprehensive. Notably has worked with the U19 Boys’, U19 Girls’, and U17 Boys’ teams and all goalkeepers, created and facilitated training sessions, and coached in countless showcase games. During his tenure, Luitwieler has seen 10 goalkeepers continue their athletic careers at NCAA Division I institutions, two of whom were named national champions.
In addition to his coaching roles, Luitwieler has been active in national soccer organizations. From 2011-2016, he served as the technical director of the Oklahoma Soccer Association in Tulsa, Okla., and was the U.S. Youth Soccer Association Region III goalkeeper coach for four years.
“Coach Luitweiler understands and values the unique context of a boarding school like Hill and will enthusiastically promote that opportunity to talented prospective players and their families,” continues Eilberg. “He has mentored and advised dozens of student-athletes through their college recruitment process, ensuring that the students and their families were focused on finding a school and program that best fit their needs.z'
A 1995 graduate of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pa., Luitweiler earned a B.S. in anthropology and history. He will officially join Hill's faculty this summer with his wife, Jennifer, and children, Abigail, Bronwyn, and Elliot.
