The Big Ten Conference announced its annual awards for men’s lacrosse, and Hill School alumnus Will Schaller ’22 has been named the 2025 Defensive Player of the Year! Schaller's outstanding performance on the lacrosse field at the University of Maryland has earned him this prestigious recognition.

“Watching the successes he's had at the next level has been special, but far from surprising,” exclaims Head Boys’ Lacrosse Coach David Page ’05.

During his time in the Big Ten, Schaller has consistently demonstrated exceptional defensive skills, showcasing his ability to read the game and make crucial plays. His dedication and hard work have paid off, as he has become a key player for his team. This season, Schaller has anchored a Maryland defense that leads the Big Ten in scoring defense, allowing just 7.54 goals per game. He also was named a Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week twice during the 2025 season.

Schaller's achievements serve as a testament to Hill's strong lacrosse program. During his time at Hill, Schaller served as a team captain in his sixth form year. He was also honored with the Team of 1962 Lacrosse Cup, presented to that member of the varsity boys’ lacrosse team who through his outstanding play and aggressive spirit provided the team with a source of inspiration and optimism.

“Will is the type of young man who's going to achieve greatness in whatever he puts his mind to,” Coach Page continues. “This award is just another example of that!”
