Just in time for the start of the fall 2019 athletics season, Local Live, the livestreaming company with which The Hill School has partnered to broadcast select athletics contests live and on-demand, has created a free app available for iOS and Android devices.  In addition to simplifying the viewing experience, the app allows people to pull individual clips and create highlight reels which can easily be shared on social media.

Getting started is simple:

  1. Download the LocalLive app (available in the App Store and Google Play).
  2. Create an account.

Please note that, regardless of whether an individual already has a LocalLive account, a new account must be created for the app.
Once logged in, search for The Hill School in the search menu and scroll until the School appears.
4)      After selecting The Hill School, individuals will be able to choose which team(s) to follow and set notifications to receive alerts when their favorite team’s games are being broadcast.
5)      Access Code: When prompted to enter an Access Code, enter Hill2 (case sensitive), which gives viewers free access to all streamed Hill School contests.

Once logged in, viewers will notice three tabs at the bottom of the screen.  Below is basic information about each tab’s features:

Profile

In the bottom-right corner, the Profile option is where viewers manage account information, select which specific team(s) to follow, and set notification preferences.

Watch

View live broadcasts in the Live tab and catch up on any missed action in the On-Demand tab.

There are several features in the On-Demand tab.

Throughout a game, Local Live marks all scores and key plays for each team.  All the goals, touchdowns, or baskets The Hill School records during the game will be marked with a red star above the time-lapse bar.  This feature can be turned off by toggling the red star in the top-left corner.

Viewers also can make a video clip while viewing a game On-Demand.  To make a video clip:

  • Find the moment of the game you are looking for and pause the video.

  • There is a scissor icon in the top-right corner.  Tap the icon to access the “create clip” menu.

  • When creating a clip, there will be a yellow bar along the timeline – this bar indicates the clip length, which by default is set to six seconds but can be a maximum of 30 seconds.  Adjust the beginning and ending bars to the desired sections of the clip before saving.

After a brief processing period, the clip will appear in the Clips section of the Highlight tab.

Highlights

The app’s key features are in the options available in the Highlights section.  There are two tabs in Highlights: Clips and Reels.

After creating a clip in the On-Demand menu, it will be saved to the Clip section.  For each clip, click “Add Label” to rename the clip.  Within each individual clip, there will be three options along the top of the video screen:

  • Scissor icon, which has the same functions as in On-Demand.

  • A white cloud with a down arrow, and a square with an up arrow.  The cloud will save a clip directly to a device’s camera roll and displays better if loaded to social media.  The square also gives download options but will share as a link rather than directly as a video.

The Reels tab allows viewers to create customized highlight reels.  All archived games will appear in reels, but games can be deleted by swiping a particular game to the right.

All the plays which are tagged by Local Live will be populated in the default highlight reel for each game.  The default clips can be edited or deleted based on the viewer’s preferences.  Viewers also may create customized reels from clips that have been saved.  Once a reel has been created, the clips may be reordered manually through a drag-and-drop process.

It will take a few moments for a reel to save, but once it is saved it can be downloaded and shared.

Sharing

It is easy to share clips and highlight reels.  Saved footage can be shared in two ways from the Clips and Reels section:

  • Save to Camera Roll: Click the cloud icon and download/save your video to your device before sharing.

  • Share Link to Social: Click the square Upload button in the left corner to share a link to your video.
