Lehigh University freshman Marina Mendez ’19 is one of three members of the Mountain Hawks’ Women’s Golf Team who was named a Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) NCAA All-American Scholar for the 2019-2020 school year.  To be eligible for All-American Scholar recognition, student-athletes must achieve a grade point average of 3.50 or higher for the year.

A civil engineering major, Mendez finished her freshman year with a 3.84 GPA.  She competed in four tournaments during the fall 2019 women’s golf season, compiling a season-best score of 264 at the Bucknell Invitational.

At Hill, Mendez was a four-year member of the girls’ golf team and she was a two-year co-captain.  Mendez was the School Champion during her third form year, and in her final two seasons she helped lead the team to consecutive Pennsylvania Independent School Athletic Association (PAISAA) titles.  She also was a four-year member of the girls’ tennis team, serving as captain during her sixth form year, and she was named the Most Improved Player on the girls’ squash team in 2019.  During the 2019 Class Day Gala, Mendez received the John Mauger Award, which is Given to the Sixth Former who has gained honor and respect for his character development through his or her energetic participation in athletics and recognizes character development, not necessarily record levels of achievement, through faithful, diligent, consistent participation in Varsity athletics.
