Critical Dates Calendar

The Hill School considers class attendance an integral part of the learning process, both for the individual and the class as a whole. Therefore, students must attend their last class, take their last examination, participate in co-curricular activities, and meet every other required commitment as scheduled before departing for a weekend, Long Weekend, or Recess. Students will not be excused to miss classes and/or commitments and should speak to their co-curricular director about departures..

Families are to adhere to the following departure dates and times on the Critical Dates Calendar when planning travel, either by Hill Transportation or commercial. Please also keep the following travel times (from Hill) in mind as public transit is booked, including air travel:

  • Philadelphia Airport (PHL)/30th Street Amtrak Station: Three hours
  • Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR): Five hours
  • John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK): Six hours

Important Notes for 2024-25 Academic Year

Long Weekend Leaves

Saturday, October 5, 2024 | Fall Family Long Weekend: Students have required classes in the morning and co-curricular activities in the afternoon. Hill transportation departs at 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. (for students who have afternoon commitments). Dorms close at 4 p.m. Students return Tuesday, October 8 by 7:15 p.m.

Friday, February 7, 2025 | Winter Long Weekend: Students depart after 12:30 p.m. and/or following their last commitment. Hill transportation departs at 1 p.m. Dorms close at 4 p.m. Tuesday, February 11, 2025 | Dorms open at 3 p.m. Varsity practice begins at 4 p.m. Boarding students return by 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2025 | Classes resume.

Friday, April 18, 2025 | Spring Long Weekend: Students depart after 12:30 p.m. and/or following their last commitment. Hill transportation departs at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2025 | Dorms open at 3 p.m. Varsity practice begins at 4 p.m. Boarding students return by 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2025 | Classes resume.

School Recesses

For the Thanksgiving, Winter, and Spring Recesses students may depart campus following their last class and/or commitment on the scheduled date. However, it is important to note that dorms will remain open and Hill transportation will not depart until the next day as noted below:

Thursday, November 21, 2024 | Thanksgiving Recess: Students may not depart before 3:30 p.m. and/or following their last commitment. Friday, November 22, 2024 |  Hill Transportation departs at 10 a.m. Dorms close at Noon. Tuesday, December 3, 2024 | Boarding students return by 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2024 | Classes resume.

Wednesday, December 18, 2024 | Winter Recess: Students may depart after 2 p.m. and/or following their last commitment. (Note: there are many required co-curricular commitments on this day.) Thursday, December 19, 2024 |  Hill Transportation departs at 10 a.m. Dorms close at Noon. Tuesday, January 7, 2025 | Boarding students return by 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, Wednesday, January 8, 2025 | Classes resume.

Thursday, March 6, 2025 | Spring Recess: Students may not depart before 3:30 p.m. and/or following their last commitment. Friday, March 7, 2025 |  Hill Transportation departs at 10 a.m. Dorms close at Noon. Tuesday, March 25, 2025 | Boarding students return by 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2025 | Classes resume.

Summer Departure

Thursday, May 29, 2025: Students depart after 11:30 a.m. Hill transportation departs at Noon. Dorms close at 4 p.m.
