Day Student Arrival Information

While this event is geared mainly toward boarding students, our SGA Co-President Sasjha Mayfield will be livestreaming this event, so please join in! While Sasjha’s rotation order might look different, these are the stops she will be making.

If you want to complete these activities at home, you will need to gather some supplies including: T-shirts and Tie-Dye kits; Aloe Vera, Isopropyl Alcohol, Essential Oils; Ice Cream and Toppings; Paper, pens, envelopes; Picture frames, cloth by the yard, packing tape, markers, scissors.

Sunday, August 23 Academic Orientation Day (required):

9:20 - 9:50 a.m.: Period A
10:05 - 10:35 a.m.: Period B
10:50 - 11:20 a.m.: Period C
11:30 a.m.- 12:25 p.m.: Virtual Wellness Education for lunch group 2 (lunch at home for group 1)
12:35 - 1:25 p.m.: Virtual Wellness Education for lunch group 1 (lunch at home for group 2)
1:30 - 2:30 p.m.: Co-curricular Activity Program meeting

You can access your schedule via MyBackPack to see which classes you have during which periods.  Your teachers will share Zoom links for Sunday morning’s classes via email and they will also be posted on each class’ Canvas page.  During remote learning, students are expected to be dressed in academic casual (collared shirt; no hats, hoods, or sweatshirts), your Zoom camera should be turned on, and you should be visible on camera.  Your advisers will share with you which lunch group you are in and the Zoom link for the Virtual Wellness Education.  Details for the Co-curricular Activity Program will be in Today on The Hill (ToTH), including Zoom links for all sessions that are accessible to remote students, as well as information for any program not holding a Zoom session. 

Monday, August 24 through Friday, August 28 (required)

This will be a normal class week and you are expected to Zoom in synchronously for Periods A, B, and C.  You will follow the three block 18-day rotation schedule. Look at the nightly ToTH so you know which rotation day we are on and the order of the next day’s classes. As stated earlier, during remote learning, students are expected to be dressed in academic casual, your Zoom camera should be turned on, and you should be visible on camera.   As was the case with Sunday’s orientation, you may or may not have an afternoon co-curricular commitment each day that is accessible by Zoom.  Details on co-curriculars will always be communicated in ToTH, or directly from your program leader.  Communication about absences due to illness, even while remote, should be emailed to daystudentill@thehill.org, which notifies both the Deans’ Office and the Wellness Center.

Sunday, August 30: ALL day student registration day (required)

8:30 - 9 a.m.:  Day Student Prefect registration
9:30 - 11 a.m.:  Returning Day Student registration
11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.:  New Day Student registration
1 - 5:30 p.m.:  New Day Student orientation

During registration, students will receive their tracking device, protective eyewear, and a name tag.  All day students will receive their exact scheduled registration time and an update on missing forms in a separate email.  Be sure all parent and student forms (accessible in MyBackPack) are completed ahead of time, or you will not be able to register.  Please note that we have moved returning day student registration from Tuesday, September 1, to this day.  Below are more details about the registration day schedule for day prefects, returning day students, and new day students.

Day Student Prefect schedule for August 30:

8:30 - 9 a.m.:  Registration (CFTA)
9 - 11:30 a.m.:  Leadership training
1 - 5:30 p.m.:  Help with new day student orientation

Come to the CFTA lot to be dropped off or to park your car. Parents: please wait in your car to ensure your child is cleared through registration before departing.  Plan on being on campus from the time you register until 5:30 p.m.  Dress is casual and we will provide you with lunch and snacks.  We are looking forward to getting started with you and having your help welcoming our newest day students!

Returning Day Student schedule for August 30:

In a separate email, you will be assigned an exact time slot between 9:30-11 a.m. to register on campus.  Come to the CFTA lot to be dropped off or to park your car.  Once you have completed the registration process, which will take approximately 15 minutes, please plan on departing campus. Parents: please do not accompany your child during the registration process.  If this scheduling change causes a conflict for your family, please email me at deilberg@thehill.org.

New Day Student schedule for August 30:

11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.:  Registration
1 - 2 p.m.:  Lunch with adviser
2 - 5:15 p.m.:  Orientation activities

In a separate email, you will be assigned an exact time slot to register between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. You will come to the CFTA lot to be dropped off or to park.  Parents: please wait in your car to ensure your child is cleared through registration before departing.  Plan on being on campus from the time you register until 5:30 p.m, at which time you should be picked up in the CFTA lot or drive yourself home.  Dress is casual and we will provide you with lunch and snacks.  This should be a really fun day! We have a complete orientation planned for you including lunch with your adviser, as well as a campus tour to ensure you are comfortable on your first in-person day of school which is Monday, August 31.

Monday, August 31:

First day of in-person learning and co-curriculars for New Day Students. 

Wednesday, September 2:

First day of in-person learning and co-curriculars for Returning Day Students.
