Day Student FAQs
A parent is to call the Deans’ Office (610-705-1288) and you are to stop in to let us know you have arrived safely prior to going to class.
Day students are permitted to drive their own car to and from campus, once they register for a parking permit in the Deans’ Office. Make sure you comply with the rules for having a car on campus that are laid out in The Hill School Handbook. Failure to follow the rules will result in a loss of driving privileges.
Yes. Day student drivers may drive other day students to and from School with both parents acknowledging the carpool in advance.
Day student parents are to call the Wellness Center (610-705-1217) by 8:25 a.m. If a day student becomes ill while on campus or has a medical appointment, he or she is to report to the Wellness Center to be excused.
Individual school districts schedule drop-off and pick-up times. Please contact your school district for your transportation needs, and note the days that the school district will not provide transportation so you can plan accordingly. It is important to communicate with your school district if you will not be needing transportation on specific dates. If there is an early dismissal due to inclement weather, we notify students via email as soon as we are contacted by the school district.
A parent is to contact the Wellness Center (610-705-1217) in advance for all medical appointments. You are to report to the Wellness Center to sign out prior to departing campus. Upon your return, you are to report back to the Wellness Center to sign in.
Students may request an academic locker and an athletic locker. Students should label all belongings and lock them safely in their lockers. Please do not leave unattended items in the Student Center, Map Room, or athletic facility.
Students are to speak with Mr. Baum or Mrs. Eccleston, in advance, to be excused to miss school. Please note that we expect students to attend school, so please do not schedule family gatherings or vacations that conflict with classes. Our holidays are very generous and we expect families to use that time.
You may stay on campus until 9:30 p.m. or until your form has required dormitory check-in. However, you must be in your affiliated dorm or getting extra academic help during study hall hours. Day students may only use the library in the evening if their form is permitted to do so. Please note that Tuesday is Family Night and all day students are to depart by 7:30 p.m., the Ryan Library closing time, or make arrangements with the dorm parent to attend Family Night. On Sundays, day students are to depart at 7:30 p.m. or at extra help made in advance. On Saturdays, check-in is at 11:00 p.m. for all students.
We encourage day students to invite boarders to their homes. Boarding students may depart campus on open weekends only, as long as the School has permission from both parents, and the boarder is properly signed out of the dorm via REACH. Please note that boarders are to submit REACH requests by 1:30 p.m. Thursday, and parent and host confirmation by noon on Friday. Parent and host confirmation is to be completed via REACH. Boarders are to return to campus by 7:15 p.m. Sunday night.
Day students on campus during the study hall hours are to check-in at their affiliated dorms at 7:30 p.m. and SISO accordingly. At that point, day students may study in their affiliated common room or another common room for group work, in the library if their form is permitted to do so, or meet with an instructor for extra help.
Day students are encouraged to attend on-campus events, as well as sign up for off-campus events. Each week the Student Life Office sends out a list of weekend activities with a sign-up.
Day students who are on campus during seated meals are required to attend. If there is a required evening event with a seated meal prior to the event, day students are to attend and attendance will be taken. In general, day students are expected to abide by the boarding rules and regulations while on campus.
Day students are not permitted to spend the night on school nights (M-F) except for inclement weather or if a School required event ends after 10 p.m. or begins prior to 8 a.m. If your parents are traveling during the school week and you need a place to stay, please work with other day student families. Day students may request a Social Saturday for recreational purposes. Requests are to be made in the Deans’ Office by 1:30 p.m. Thursday. The deadline for completed request forms is Friday at noon. Parents are to confirm with the Deans’ Office at 610-705-1288 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Late requests will not be approved.
If impending weather will impact travel, we encourage day students to spend the night. Day students are to complete a form in the Deans’ Office by 1:30 p.m. the day of and a parent is to confirm the request with the Deans’ Office at 610-705-1288 or email@example.com.
A Headmaster’s Holiday is a day without classes and is announced by the Headmaster typically at lunch the day prior. Day students are expected to let their parents know as soon as possible, and are to communicate with their afternoon instructor or coach for expectations on the Headmaster’s Holiday. School District transportation will be canceled by the Student Activities Office. Day students are welcome to stay and participate in activities and are to depart by their form’s check-in time. Day student overnights are not permitted.
