Softball
The Hill School softball program seeks to provide an environment for student-athletes to grow as players and as people. Athletic progress, leadership development, and college recruiting support are all facets of The Hill Softball experience.
Our location allows our players ample opportunity to attend camps, fall recruiting events or showcases with their club programs in the Mid-Atlantic or nationwide (the Philadelphia Int. Airport is 45 minutes from campus). Players have access to equipment including nets, softballs, tees as well as both an indoor and outdoor batting cage. Our field is located on campus and can be used in the off season during the warmer months, and our indoor facility David H. Mercer Field House, can be converted into a full infield for practice during inclement weather. Optional off-season practices are held once per week and additional times can be scheduled based upon availability or interest.

Jon McKee | Varsity Head Coach

Jon McKee P'17 was named the new head coach of Hill Softball for the 2021-22 academic year. The father of former Hill Softball captain Kyli McKee ’17, Coach McKee is highly familiar with Hill Softball, the MAPL, and the PAISAA, and he knows what it takes to build and maintain a competitive program. For more than 20 years, Coach McKee has coached various levels of softball with local organizations. He coached in the Pottstown Little League from 2004 until 2012, when he became a head coach in the Sanatoga Scream organization. Currently the Head Coach of the Scream’s 14U team, Coach McKee has also been a head coach for the Scream’s 12U, 16U, and 18U teams, including four seasons as the 18U coach. Outside of the travel ball realm, McKee coached at Pottstown High School for three seasons. He was a volunteer coach in 2017 and then became head coach in 2018, a role he held for three seasons.
Program Overview
Spring Season:
While in season, every minute is carefully planned to maximize the talent, character, and focus of our players. Practices are tailored to both the team as a whole and to each individual to ensure development of routine skills, footwork and game sense. Our schedule games against fellow Mid-Atlantic Prep League schools - Hun School, Mercersburg Academy, Blair Academy, Peddie School, and Lawrenceville School, Hill’s rival since the 1880s in what is the fifth-oldest high school rivalry in the United States – and a challenging non-league schedule. At the end of the season, Hill competes in the Pennsylvania Independent School Athletic Association (PAISAA) state tournament, an event that finishes at the end of May before the beginning of most travel ball seasons.
College Recruiting and Placement:
The ever-evolving landscape of the recruitment process requires close guidance. Those interested in playing at the collegiate level will receive support directly from the coaching staff, led by Coach McKee, and will be supported by The Hill’s College Counselling Office. Open and honest dialogue throughout the recruiting process is paramount and we push our student-athletes to find the right fit above all else.

On Wednesday, May 10, Hill Softball pitcher Aryanna Bodge '23 reached her 100-strikeout milestone for the season against Friends Select in the first inning! The team went on to win the game 14-3.
