Alumni Association

The goal of The Hill School Alumni Association is to strengthen the ties between alumni and the School by sharing ideas and the experiences of its diverse membership. Through events, networking opportunities, and other programs, the School strives to be a valuable and enriching resource for all generations of Hill alumni.

Wallace Gundy '04 | Alumni Association President


Wallace became the first alumna to serve as Alumni Association President in 2020. She earned a degree in English from the University of Virginia in 2008 and then spent the next ten years working in the admissions office at Portsmouth Abbey School. She earned her M.B.A. from the University of Rochester, Simon School of Business, and was named one of the best and brightest 2020 M.B.A. graduates by Poets and Quants. She is now a Senior Product Manager for Amazon in Seattle. Wallace is the 2004 class secretary, previously served as president of the Boston regional chapter of the Alumni Association, and served for three years as the association’s vice president.

 

William (Bill) Barnshaw III '95


Following graduation, Bill went on to the University of Richmond where he graduated with a BS in Business Administration. Bill’s early career started at Capital One as a Financial Analyst. After seven years at Capital One he became COO at MRS, a financial services company.  He was with the company for approximately eight years before taking on the role of COO at Agent06. Among a variety of interests and hobbies, Bill is a member of the Advisory Board for the Salvation Army.  You can find him ringing the kettle bell outside Starbucks every December in downtown Haddonfield. Bill is very passionate about technology, woodworking, and golf.  He and his wife, Angela, are the proud parents of twin girls, Frankie and Charlie. Bill serves as Class Secretary and is an active member of the Board of Visitors.

Richard (Rick) Bragdon, Jr. '70


After The Hill, Rick attended Stanford University, where he graduated with distinction in English Literature in 1974. An MBA degree in finance and marketing from the UCLA Anderson School of Management in 1980 commenced his career in business. This included jobs as marketing manager at Pepsi-Cola in Purchase, N.Y. and brand identity strategist at Addison Design Consultants in San Francisco, Calif. where he later became president and CEO. In 1994, Rick founded his own company, Idiom Brand, specializing in the creation of names for companies, products, and services. Rick lives in California on the Monterey Peninsula where he runs, cycles, plays golf, and studies piano. He has been married to his wife, Elyse, for 30 years and is presently building a labor of love called Kindness Partners. Rick has been leading the Reunion Committee for the Class of 1970.
 

Stephen Engblom '85

Stephen is a Sr. Managing Director with CBRE, the world’s premier provider of integrated real estate and advisory services. As CBRE’s Infrastructure and Public Enterprise Thought Leader, Stephen is committed to applying global best practices in urban policy and infrastructure strategies to enhance the environment, equity, and economy of the world’s cities; his work has spanned six continents. He is a faculty member at UC Berkeley where he teaches Resilient and Equitable Real Estate and Development. Stephen has a Master of Architecture degree from Rice University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Architecture and Urban Studies from Lehigh University. He and his partner, Lance, have been San Francisco residents since 2005, and he is an avid cyclist and supporter of the AIDS Lifecycle. Stephen has been an advocate for LGBTQ+ inclusivity at Hill by supporting HASOGI (Hill Alliance for Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity) for the past decade. He partnered with Hill Athletics to create a first-of-its-kind program at the high school level nationally that become a model program for the MAPL (Mid-Atlantic Prep League).

Betsy Kilkenny '99

Since her time at Hill, Betsy has enjoyed a rewarding career in the nonprofit sector. A graduate of Dickinson College, Betsy also earned her Master's in Public Administration from Villanova University and is a current candidate in the CFRE program. Betsy resides in Jenkintown, Pa.  along with her husband and two daughters. She enjoys exploring different cultures, cooking, and running and combing all three while traveling when possible. Her favorite adventures so far have included hiking through Machu Picchu, taking cooking classes in Rome, and diving in Atlantis. Betsy is proud to serve on the Executive Committee of the Alumni Board because she attributes many of her career and personal achievements to the lessons she learned as one of the first girls to graduate from Hill in 1999. "I will never forget the friends I made, the enjoyment of performing on the CFTA stage, and the traditions that I still enjoy when returning to campus.  I will always fondly remember Sunday evening classes with Doc. Garretson. He didn't just teach philosophy, he taught you how to find your own path in life." 

Lindsay Mays '05



Lindsay is a Long Island native who graduated from The Hill School in 2005. After earning an English degree from The University of Vermont in 2009, she moved back to New York. Lindsay worked in Manhattan at Paul Hastings law firm as a junior paralegal until 2015, when she decided to move to Los Angeles. She spent six years working as an estate manager and nanny, and has recently accepted a role at Marymount High School in the Student Affairs Department. Lindsay serves as a co-president of the Alumnae Society and is a Class Agent for the class of 2005.


 

Liza Perry '07

Liza graduated from The Hill School in 2007 and University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill in 2011 with a degree in journalism. She's worked on public relations and social media campaigns for major consumer goods brands in Chicago and lead social media for a health care technology firm in Kansas City. After deciding to make a career change, Liza recently graduated from the University of Miami Business School with an MBA focused on real estate. Currently, she's a project manager for CBRE working a variety of projects in Miami-Dade County. She is on the Women United Executive Committee for the United Way of Miami-Dade and serves as a committee chair for CREW Miami. She also is active in the Urban Land Institute and supports Miami Homes for All. Liza started the Miami Chapter of The Hill School Alumni Association in 2019.

 

Krista Tietjen '08

After graduating from The Hill in 2008, Krista attended Boston College, where she double majored in communications and French language. After more than a decade leading communications for global brands such as Adidas, Reebok and Roc Nation, Krista made the move to the startup world during the pandemic to lead Founder Communications at Clearco, a Canadian fintech unicorn and the world's largest e-commerce investor. She heads up communications, content marketing, and community building for Clearco's global portfolio of more than 7,000+ e-commerce  founders. Passionate about mentorship for young women and girls, Krista is one of the founders of The Hill’s G.R.I.P. Mentorship Program (Girls Reaching and Igniting Potential). She currently resides in New York City with her partner, and French Bulldog, Baloo.


 

Robert (Wes) C. Wesley, Jr. MD '67


Wes graduated from Yale College 1971 and Yale Medical School in 1975. Following completion of a cardiology fellowship at The University of Virginia, he practiced academic medicine at The University of California at Irvine and later as an adjunct faculty member at The Universities of Nevada, Reno and Las Vegas. He has been in private practice and academic partnership with the Nevada Heart and Vascular Center of Las Vegas.



 

Shelley Baumgarten | Ex-Officio



Shelley serves as the Secretary-Treasurer, Ex Officio for The Hill School Alumni Association. She also is the director of alumni and parent engagement at the School. She came to The Hill in 2013, after teaching for 10 years at a private school. Shelley earned her B.A. in English from Cornerstone University. She and her husband are dorm parents on the third floor of Wendell.
